New Recruitment Rules 2026 for GSSSB CCE Class III

The Government of Gujarat has notified new recruitment rules for Class III (Group-A and Group-B) posts through a Combined Competitive Examination (CCE). These rules are published in the Gujarat Government Gazette (Extraordinary) dated 22 January 2026.

These rules are officially titled as “Gujarat Subordinate Services, Class III (Group-A and Group-B) (Combined Competitive Examination) Rules, 2026” and have been framed under Article 309 of the Constitution of India, superseding all earlier rules on this subject.

1. Short Title, Commencement and Application

  • Name of Rules: Gujarat Subordinate Services GSSSB, Class III (Group-A and Group-B) (Combined Competitive Examination) Rules, 2026
  • Date of Effect: From the date of publication in the Official Gazette
  • Applicability: To Class III posts specified in Appendix-A

2. Conducting Authority

The Gujarat Subordinate Service Selection Board (GSSSB), Gandhinagar, or any other authority specified by the Government, shall conduct the Combined Competitive Examination.


3. Requisition of Vacancies

Every year, all concerned offices shall send their vacancy requirements to their respective Secretariat Departments. Consolidated requisitions are then forwarded to the Board in prescribed formats (Appendix C, D and E).


4. Combined Competitive Examination

The Board shall conduct a Combined Competitive Examination for direct recruitment to Class III posts specified in Appendix-A.


5. Stages of Examination

The examination shall be held in two successive stages:

(A) Preliminary Examination

  • Common for Group-A and Group-B posts
  • Objective type (MCQs)
  • Total Marks: 150
  • Duration: 2 Hours
  • Screening test only (marks not counted in final merit)

(B) Main Examination

  • Separate for Group-A and Group-B
  • Group-A: Descriptive Type
  • Group-B: MCQ Type

Number of candidates called for Main Examination shall be seven times the number of advertised vacancies.


6. Preliminary Examination Scheme (Appendix-F)

7. Main Examination – Group A (Appendix-G & H)

Questions shall be descriptive in nature and syllabus is detailed in Appendix-H of the Rules.


8. Main Examination – Group B

Group-B Main Examination shall be objective (MCQ) type with 200 Marks and 2 Hours duration, covering Constitution, Economy, Governance, Ethics, Schemes, Current Affairs, Gujarat History & Culture, Science and IT.


9. Educational Qualification & Age Limit

  • Eligibility as per respective recruitment rules of the post
  • Minimum Age: 20 Years
  • Maximum Age: As prescribed in relevant recruitment rules
  • Age relaxation applicable as per Gujarat Civil Services Rules

10. Examination Fees

  • Fee payable for Preliminary Examination only
  • Fee shall be refunded to candidates who appear in the Preliminary Examination
  • No fee for Main Examination

11. Qualifying Standards

Minimum qualifying marks shall not be less than:

  • 40% in Preliminary Examination
  • 40% in each paper of Main Examination

12. Document Verification & Preference

  • Candidates shortlisted for document verification shall be twice the number of vacancies
  • Candidates must give post/department preference
  • Preference once given is final

13. Selection, Result & Appointment

  • Final merit based only on Main Examination marks
  • No waiting list shall be prepared
  • Vacant posts shall be carried forward to next recruitment
  • Selected candidates must join within 30 days

14. Prohibited Items & Discipline

Use of mobile phones, smart watches, calculators or any electronic devices is strictly prohibited. Unfair means or misconduct shall attract disqualification and debarment.


15. Repeal of Old Rules

The Class III (Combined Competitive Examination) Rules, 2023 are hereby repealed. However, actions already initiated under old rules shall remain valid.

16. List of Posts Covered (Appendix-A)

These rules apply to various Class III posts including Office Assistant, Senior Clerk, Head Clerk, Junior Clerk, Office Superintendent, Sub-Registrar, Inspector of Stamps, Social Welfare Inspector, Assistant Tribal Development Officer, and other posts mentioned in Appendix-A.
